The Benefits of Bone BrothPicture recipe of Bone Broth by Aom [2]

In the book Nourishing Broth, by Sally Fallon Morell and Kaayla Daniels, the authors cover many benefits of high quality (gelatinous) bone broth. Properly prepared broths can be a key component of a healthy diet. Broth’s components can help with arthritis, both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid.

The cartilage, proteoglycans, and hyleronic acid in broth helps to nourish and hydrate the joints. The collegen factors nourish the skin and can help heal psorisis, eczema, and dermatitis. Broth has significant anti-inflammatory qualities and helps with chronic pain with people. It can also help people heal from injuries and surgery as well as improve athletic performance.

Studies show that it is even helpful with depression and mood disorders.

Broth also helps modulate the immune system. In the book, they not only explain how chicken soup can help with colds, but how quality made soup is even better at fighting infections. For those with hyperactive immune systems (auto-immune diseases), broth can help settle the body and keep it from attacking itself.

Broth and gelatin can help satiate hunger, and help with dieting. At the same time, for those with irritated digestive systems, broth can sooth and help heal the gut. Broth can also help diminish food allergies.

While bone broth doesn’t contain much calcium, it still helps counter osteoperosis and increase bone density. It does so by supporting the matrix that the calcium crystals attach to when making bone.

High gelatin broth has many beneficial ingredients including, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin and glucosamine sulfate, amino acids (like proline, glycine, glutamine, and alanine), and galactosamine.

Young or old, sick or healthy, broth is a great addition to any diet. I’m recommending it to all of my patients.
