As many of you know, I was struggling with my new eyeglass prescription in August. I felt like I was not thinking clearly while I wore them, and my eyes while seeing clearer, were not working in tandem. I had gone to a local optometrist, who was pleasant and efficient. Many of you told me to wait a couple of weeks, but I just couldn’t adjust to my glasses.
I got a second opinion from Dr. Zachery Weinberg at Forest City Vision. He spent an hour checking my vision several different ways, making recommendations, and giving me a new prescription. While he felt that his prescription would work for me, he also had a plan if it didn’t.
I had my glasses remade with the new prescription, and I’m pleased to say that the difference is night and day. I can read and see clearly while feeling like a normal human. I appreciate the extra time that Dr. Weinberg spent with me to get it right.
Glasses and contacts can irritate the nervous system if they aren’t right. They can cause confusion, headaches, eye strain, dizziness, and disorientation. If your glasses are irritating you, first make sure that they are matching your prescription. If they are, you may want to get a second opinion. I highly recommend Dr. Weinberg for either a first or second opinion.
Dr. Weinberg also offers Vision Therapy at his office. Vision therapy exercises strengthen the muscles of our eyes (we have muscles inside and surrounding our eyes). In addition, the exercises have a neurological component. They retrain our eyes to work better together and help retrain our brain to interpret better what our eyes see.
Vision therapy is helpful for people (not just children) with ADD/ADHD, with difficulty reading (getting their “Murds Wixed Up”), with sports by improving eye-hand coordination, and those with post-concussive vision problems.
As an Upper Cervical chiropractor, I know that removing the deep twist in the spine caused by atlas misalignment is vital for people with these conditions. I also believe that crawling exercises are essential for those with ADD/ADHD. Vision Therapy can also help heal these issues.
At this point, I have not had Vision Therapy at Dr. Weinberg’s office. However, in my early 20s, I did Vision Therapy with a doctor in Santa Fe, NM. While I had worn glasses since third grade, I never had a large prescription. Through vision Therapy, my eyes improved so much that I could legally stop wearing glasses. This lasted until my early 30’s. I was in my second year of chiropractic school, and my eyes couldn’t keep up. We spent hours in darkened classrooms in lectures with overhead projectors and slides.
I may or may not start Vision Therapy again; however, I will return to Dr. Weinberg next year for my checkup. He’s taking eye health to the next level.
